Why SSTI?

connections

The staff at SSTI consists of upperclass college students, graduate students, and professional designers, directors, and educators working regionally, on Broadway, and in some of the nation's premiere musical theatre programs. The collaborative experience of working together at SSTI is quite often the spark for a lifetime of collaborations in the field.

opportunity

For professionals looking to enhance their versatility and gain portfolio-defining images, the large scale productions at SSTI are vastly different from what you might imagine at a 'summer camp'. Working at SSTI gives staff members the chance to not only flex their creative muscles and take on new challenges, but also the opportunity to teach and share their knowledge with our incredible students.

location

There are many opportunities for summer work. but how many of those are housed minutes away from '2021's #1 Island in the United States'? South Carolina's beautiful Lowcountry offers something for everyone with beautiful beaches, water activities, and endless nature. Each employee has required time off weekly to insure they are able to enjoy their island home.

2023 Positions

All jobs include a private bedroom in 4br/2ba apartment housing, dinners nightly, and a travel stipend or round-trip airfare.

Most positions at SSTI will involve the ‘teaching as you work.’  While you won’t have a traditional classroom at which to report, you will be teaching our high school apprentices the safe and best practices for taking a professional designer’s work, and bringing it to life on a stage. At SSTI, we are shaping the next generation of theatre technicians, and every staff member bears the responsibility of supporting that task daily. A staff member at SSTI should possess the strong leadership skills needed to serve as a role model for the collegiate and high school students working within their department, with a keen ability to ‘read the room’, make game-time decisions, and diffuse any situation that may arise during the course of a long production process.

SSTI is committed to creating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
